Gender Based Violence
The Gender-based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR) works to ensure the recognition that GBV response and prevention is lifesaving, and that GBV programming is the responsibility of all humanitarian actors and needs to be addressed with adequate, comprehensive and coordinated action in humanitarian emergencies from the outset.
The GBV AoR, led by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is the global level forum for coordination and collaboration on GBV prevention and response in humanitarian settings. The group brings together NGOs, UN agencies, donors, academics and independent experts under the shared objectives of ensuring more predictable, accountable and effective GBV prevention and response in emergencies. Established in 2008, the GBV AoR is a functional component of the Global Protection Cluster (GPC).
