WASH Cluster Incident Report №261, 19/06/2020

On 19th June there was new damage reported to the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas (SDD) channel near the 3rd Lift Pumping Station (LPS) in ‘no man’s land’. Damages are not thought to be significant for the moment, however, such damage can worsen due to high pressure. The LPS normally supply 56,000 to 58,000 m3 per hour, to Non-Government Controlled Areas (NGCA), also supplying, further down, Pokrovsk, Volnovakha, and Mariupol. In total around 3.1 million people. The diameter of the pipes is 2300 mm. VD informed the WASH Cluster, that they already requested a Window of Silence (WoS) and demining works from the JCCC. Currently, water supply via the pipes is working as normal although flows are reduced to 28,000 m3 per hour due to other incidents. The extent of the damage has yet to be determined, and it is unknown if the pipes would survive a return to full pressure. The WASH Cluster is in touch with Voda Donbassa and OSCE and will inform partners of any developments
