Resultados principales:

The current flood situation has affected 5,791 HH (Nyal 3,577 and Ganyliel 2,214) of the entire County and has displaced several households in Tiap Payam, Jiech, Chuk, Malouk, Kanhial, Pachar, Pachenjok, Maluak , Pachar, and many other areas. The asssessment team found houses abandoned in the flood waters by the local people. Pastoralists have moved with their livestock from Tiap, Jiech  Kanhial, Chuk and Malouk to higher grounds in Paliay village and West of Kanhial where they got exposed to cattle raiders from other States leading to loss of lives and property. In addition, it also leads to competition over limited grazing areas for cattle, out break of animal diseases. Women and children were killed in the attacks by youth from Neighboring communities in late June/2020. In visiting the affected Payams and Villages, most of the visible damage was on farmlands which were completely submerged (sorghum and Maize which are the main staple crops grown for food). The affected populations are leaving on less than one meal a day with negative copying strategies such as eating wild foods. Their health is also deteriorating due to lack of mosquito nets and cut off from health facilities by the flood waters. There have been increased cases of rape on women who try to go out and collect firewood and wild food. There are no sufficient NFI mainly blankets and sleeping mats. There are protection concerns for the children, elderly and women who are left to fend for themselves. Our observation from some of the households we visited during day time, only small children between age of 1-5 and elderly are at home while boys age 10-13 are in the swamps fishing while women are out searching for food as men follow cattle to far areas.

The affected children and women are in urgent needs of protection and psychosocial supports. The displaced pastoralists need sleeping plastic sheets, mat, mosquito nets, cooking utensils  and drugs as well as vacination services for their animals.
