Protection Assessment STY Haiyan (Yolanda) 14 November, Issue No. 5

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Total recorded affected population has now reached 8 million of which 534,000 persons remain displaced in 1,099 evacuation centers.
  • Affected population is pleading for a more rapid delivery of relief goods. Lack of information on isolated and unserved areas compounded with logistics issues hamper speedy relief operations.
  • More residents are flying out from the affected areas due desperation and feeling of insecurity. Transportation remains a challenge.
  • Communications lines were restored in hard-hit areas however, still not dependable.
  • The government deployed social workers from other regions to augment the relief workers in affected areas. Air services prioritize transport of relief workers and relief goods as well internally displaced persons needing medical assistance.
