Global Humanitarian Overview 2019

Humanitarian crises across the globe now affect more people and last longer on average than ever before. More resources are required so that aid workers can reach all vulnerable people most in need.

The Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) is the most comprehensive, authoritative and evidence-based assessment of priority global humanitarian needs and how to respond to them. By providing the most accurate assessment of needs and how best to meet them, the GHO helps to: mobilize resources; ensure that the resources are targeted towards the people, sectors and areas that need them the most; and promote efficiency so that the resources are used as effectively as possible. In 2019, nearly 132 million people across the world will need humanitarian assistance. The humanitarian community aims to assist 93.6 million of the most vulnerable. Funding requirements for 2019 amount to US$21.9 billion. This figure does not include the financial requirements for Syria, which will be confirmed upon finalization of the 2019 Syria Humanitarian Response Plan.

Correction: An earlier version of this document incorrectly stated that 1 in every 70 people in the world was in need of humanitarian assistance in 2019. It was 1 in 57.
