WASH Cluster Incident Report №92, 14/11/2017

DONETSK FILTER STATION SMALL ARMS FIRE:   BULLET HOLE IDENTIFIED

According to information from Voda Donbasa (VD), staff of the Donetska Filter Station (DFS) identified a bullet hole in the window of the driver's room in the building of the garages yesterday morning (November 13, 8.30 am).  At the time of the incident, nobody was in the room and fortunately, no one was injured.

Although this incident carries less risk to water supply than shelling, there is still a significant identifiable risk to water company staff, who could have been in the room at that moment, and for the equipment / chlorine pipeline or other. If repeats of such incidents occur then VD would be forced to consider evacuating staff form the facility, stopping operations.

Currently DFS continue to operate in normal mode. DFS supplies water to the following settlements: Avdiivka, Kruta Balka, Vasylivka, Mineralne, Yakovlivka, Verkhniotoretske, part of Yasynuvata and western areas of Donetsk city, and it officially provides water in total to 345,309 people (December 2016 figures from Voda Donbasa).

Recently DFS was shelled three times during first week of November (Incident Reports #87, 88, 89)

The WASH Cluster is in touch with ‘Voda Donbasa’ and will report any specific needs and updates to WASH Cluster partners.
