WASH Cluster Incident Report №87, 03/11/2017

The WASH Cluster was informed that at the early morning of November 3 (1:30 a.m.) artillery shells fell on the territory of the Donetsk Filter station (DFS). As a result, the glazing of the filters building was broken and roofing of the operations building was damaged. Fortunately, no staff were wounded. At the moment DFS continues to operate in normal mode.

DFS supplies water to the following settlements: Avdiivka, Kruta Balka, Vasylivka, Mineralne, Yakovlivka, Verkhniotoretske, part of Yasynuvata and western areas of Donetsk city, and it officially provides water in total to 345,309 people (December 2016 figures from Voda Donbasa).

Centralized heating systems in Ukraine were started on October 15. Damage or stopping of water facilities at this time of the year is critical both for the population that receives water for domestic usage but also because lack of water from DFS could stop the urban heating systems.

The WASH Cluster is in touch with ‘Voda Donbasa’ and will report any specific needs and updates to WASH Cluster partners.
