WASH Cluster Incident Report №195, 04/06/2019

Dear All,

On Monday, June 3rd 2019 from 10:00 am to 10:40 am there was shelling unacceptably close to the First Lift Pumping Station (1st LPS) of the South Donbas Water Way. During the incident, day shift workers took cover in the onsite bomb shelter. The 1st LPS supplies water to five filter stations, between them providing clean water to more than 1,1 million people, on both sides of the line of contact in Eastern Ukraine. See attached a WASH Cluster Incident Report.

Settlements affected by power cuts to Voda Donbasa: over the weekend small generators at Artemivka Filter Station (supplying Bakhmut city) were replaced by a large generator (600 KVA) supplied by the State Emergency Services (SES). On that basis water is now be arriving at the whole of Bakhmut (Bakhmut city plus 5 other settlements, totalling 94,000 people). A team from UNICEF, PIN and OCHA visited today, making an assessment.  The main issue, now, for Bakhmut, will be whether SES, or the municipality can afford to pay for diesel usage, which will reportedly cost around 2000 USD per day.

For 18,000 people near Konstantinovka, Bilokuzminovskyi Boreholes remain depowered, and some small generators have be bought to the 4th Lift Pumping Station of the 2nd Donetsk Water Way (just for opening valves) so that water is flowing to two settlements Klebanbuk and Sherbinoivska by gravity. However many of the 18,000 are still without adequate supply of clean water
