Gender-based violence is a widespread issue in Ukraine, especially in conflict-affected regions, the number of GBV survivors is increasing. Along with it, the need for shelters to which women can escape remains very high. After ensuring a survivor's safety, the main goal of a shelter is to provide social, psychological, and legal support for women, who experienced violence, and to help them stabilize their private life. The new shelter, opened by UNFPA in Kharkiv has bedrooms, bathrooms, and a kitchen and is designed for 10 people to stay there up to six months. For the residents' security, the address is kept secret from everyone other than representatives of local social services and NGOs dealing with violence in families.
