White Nile State Flood Rapid Assessment Report for Tandalti Locality - 3 September 2020

  1. To assess the flood impacts/effects, capacities, and immediate emergency needs of affected communities.
  2. To assess current situation and level of services including NFIES, education, FSL, WASH, Health nutrition and protection for affected population during the emergency period.
  3. To advocate for enhancing communities’ resilience during and post-emergency.
  1. The assessment team used participatory approaches in data collection which based on the simple designed format for assessing and verification of damaged HHs and infrastructures.
  2. Focus group discussion used for open end questions to collect the reliable information of approximately 5 community members.
  3. COVID-19 prevention measures were considered by all assessment team members including observance of distance, putting on face masks, use of sanitizers, etc.  
Key findings: 
  • Among the basic schools/ learning space verified at Tandalti locality, there is one school significant affected by rainfall namely Umajaja co-school which was totally damaged of classrooms, so far becoming unsafe environment for children to be in.
  • Other main education concerns included not available water and latrines namely in Ubjarda, Kitairaia and Donglawia.
  • One village have children not access to school due to road condition namely Awlad Abdulla, around 120 pupils affected and 80 children at school age are not enrolled because the school it is too far and no kindergarten there.
  • No school occupied by affected people during the assessment.
  • All villages assessed namely (Umajaja, Ubjarda, Kitairaia, Donglawia and Awlad Abdulla) haven’t preschool shelters
