INTER AGENCY INITIAL RAPID ASSESSMENT Abu Karinka and Al Gidamia EAST DARFUR 11 June 2015

Subject/Objective: 

Purpose of the mission:
To assess the humanitarian situation and determine immediate humanitarian needs following the tribal conflict between the Maalia and Reizaigat on 11 May, 2015 in Abu Karinka town. Furthermore, to establish the humanitarian needs in Al Gidamia village which was also burnt down by the Reizaigat who initially were using it as their base.

Key findings: 

Abu Karinka locality
* Abu Karinka locality has an overall population of 218,000 people (according to the 2008 Sudan Census).
* According to HAC, the population in Abu Karinka town is 120,000 people (some 24,000 households).
* The inter-agency assessment mission in November 2014 in Abu Karinka found that 7,150 households were displaced during the 2013/14 tribal conflict.
Following the armed tribal conflict in Abu Karinka on 11 May, 2015, affected population in need of immediate humanitarian assistance include;
* 980 households, whose houses were completely burnt and also lost all their household assets and 1300 households whose household items and assets were looted during the fighting.
Al Gidamia village, Assalaya locality
* Total population: 2,835 people (567 HH).
* Affected population: 745 people (149 households) whose houses were burnt down and lost all their assets. Three (3) classrooms were also completely destroyed in Al Gidamia.
