INTER-AGENCY ASSESSMENT REPORT: Tawilla Katur Village, Tawilla Locality, North Darfur State 28-30 September 2016
Assess the humanitarian needs in the area following an inter-communal violence between farmers and pastoralists in Kosa area and surrounding villages which reportedly resulted in displacement of an estimated 7,000 people in early September 2016
An urgent need for constructing six (6) new temporary classrooms, two (2) teachers’ offices and a store.
An estimated 2,600 children under 18 years need psychosocial support services (PSS) through different interventions either Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs) or home-based activities.
People are taking shelter in the surrounding hills due to a fear of further attacks.
The team held a focus group discussion with about 60-80 men and 80-100 women. It was unclear whether the gathering is new IDPs, old IDPs of 2015 or the original population of Katur village. Hence no clear observation on the status IDPs food, hygiene and living conditions.
There is one primary health unit, run by a community health worker who reports to SMoH through Tawilla PHC’s director. The routine immunization services across the area are provided through outreach teams.
Number of under 5 children was approximately 290 individual.
Insecurity poses a real challenge that restricts farming activities.
