INTER-AGENCY ASSESSMENT REPORT: Anka, Birdik and Um Rai, Kutum Locality, North Darfur State. 11-16 May 2016

To assess the humanitarian needs of an estimated 10,000 people (3,000 families) reportedly affected by attacks by armed militiamen on 2-3 December 2015 on a number of villages, including Anka, in Kutum locality.
Key findings: 
Health facilities: There is only one health facility located in Anka being run by the International NGO GOAL with a capacity of one (1) medical assistant, one (1) midwife, one (1) vaccinator, providing health services for the whole Anka area as well as villages belonging to Um Rai, Tima, Birdik, Hashaba, Biery, Dirrah and Malam al Hosh. Breastfeeding mothers reported reduction of milk quantity due to stress and food shortage. Therefore, they face difficulties in dealing with the traditional coping strategies to overcome the problem.. Two (2) children were reportedly killed during the attacks on Anka. In addition, 3 to 4 children were wounded during the attacks and one of them (1) died later as a result of his injury. Anka: has one school, which was closed immediately after the attack and reopened only one week prior to the visit of the assessment mission. The classrooms require rehabilitation.
