El kuma Rapid Interagency Assessment Mission Report -16 April 2015


To assess the humanitarian situation of the reported new IDPs, identify needs and plan appropriate interventions.


o Meetings with key informant (local authority, community leaders)
o Visits to the IDPs sites and existing basic facilities locations
o Observation.

Key findings: 

- In general, health situation is relatively stable but unpredictable requiring close follow up and monitoring
- There are 31 schools in El kuma in total (6 for girls, 1 for boys, 24 mixed), some of them are semi-nomad schools (about 10).
- The livelihoods of people in the locality mainly depend on herding of livestock / mainly sheep, goats, camels, cattle and donkeys integrated with cultivation of millet and small pockets for vegetables production (mainly Okra, Cucumber and Water Mellon).
- Lack of adequate water for human and animal consumption for the community including the IDPs has been reported as of great concerns by the local authorities and community leaders.
