Food Security Cluster/Sector

The current humanitarian crisis in Northwest Syria is the worst in nine years of war in Syria. Due to the military escalation, over 950,000 people were forced to flee their homes since December 2019, seeking safety in host communities and IDP camps in Idleb and Aleppo Governorates. Most of the newly displaced people are women and children in need of humanitarian assistance.

The Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) Cluster provides coordination of the partner organizations to ensure food access to the newly displaced people and operates in full support of the partners’ implementing programs in Northwest Syria.

Currently, about 60 partners are active members of the FSL Cluster, providing updates on programs by submitting the monthly 5Ws, and participating in the meetings led by the FSL Cluster, which are:

-FSL Cluster Monthly Partners Meeting
-Area Coordination Groups
-Agriculture, livestock, bread and bakery technical working groups

The FSL Cluster regularly also contributes to the Inter Cluster Coordination Group (ICCG) by OCHA, and to the preparation of the SitRep on NW Syria every month.

The FSL Cluster focuses its action on SO1 (life-saving activities), SO2, and SO3 (livelihoods, self-reliance/income generating activities).

Key information, reports, and products can be found at the FSL Cluster Gaziantep Hub webpage.
