About the South Sudan Monitoring Toolkit

The South Sudan Child Protection Sub-Cluster, on behalf of its members and supported by Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), has initiated the implementation of a situation and response monitoring mechanism adapted from the global Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) Monitoring Toolkit. The purpose of South Sudan Situation and Response Monitoring is to collect reliable information to support prioritization and targeting of interventions and to improve quality of programs. The information produced will also be used for advocacy with donors, government and implementing agencies when necessary. The toolkit is comprised of two protocols: Response Monitoring and Situation Monitoring.

Situation Monitoring

The main objective of situation monitoring is to collect data on a regular basis on the situation of children affected by crises. The information will be used by implementing agencies, donors and the child protection coordination group to modify priorities, strategies and program objectives if necessary. It can also provide info on emerging Child Protection issues that may require new programming. The information will also be used for advocacy with donors, government and implementing agencies.

The main objective of Response Monitoring is to collect and analyse data on a regular basis regarding coverage and quality of services provided to children affected by conflict in South Sudan. This information is intended for use by implementing agencies, donors and the child protection coordination group to improve the quality of the Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) response.
