Somalia Health Cluster Regional and Sub-national Coordination Focal Points – November 2019

The Health Cluster coordinates all key health actors in the country to offer timely relief and life-saving humanitarian healthcare services to populations affected by crises. It serves as a mechanism for coordinated assessments, joint analysis, the development of agreed overall priorities, objectives and a health crisis response strategy. It also provides monitoring and evaluation of the implementation and impact of life-saving health assistance under the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP).

At the country level, the Health Cluster establishes a clear system of leadership and accountability for international response under the overall leadership of the UN Humanitarian Coordinator. The Health Cluster also provides a framework for strong, effective partnerships among international and national humanitarian actors in humanitarian health. This framework works to ensure that the international response is appropriately aligned with national structures.

The Health Cluster team comprises a Health Cluster Coordinator (WHO) and Cluster Co-Coordinator (SCI) based in Mogadishu; a Cluster Support Officer (WHO) based in a Nairobi Liaison Office and a Health Cluster Information Management Officer (IMO) (iMMAP), based in Mogadishu. The team works closely with Somali health authorities at all levels and liaises with regional and global levels to share best practices and experiences, develop capacity in various fields, gain technical support, and share information (guidelines).
