Somalia: Situation report for acute watery diarrhoea/ cholera Epidemiological week 12 (20th – 26thMarch 2017)

Highlights

 There was an increase in the number of AWD/ cholera cases and deaths reported from 2918 cases and 53 deaths in week 11 to 3,390 cases and 70 deaths in week 12.

 A total of 3390 AWD/ cholera cases and 70 deaths (CFR 2.1%) were reported during week 12 (20th - 26th March, 2017) in 41 districts in 10 regions. Of the reported cases, 399 cases were from Goofgadud Burey in Bay, which represents 11.8% of the total cases.

 New districts in Bay (Waafdhay, Misare, Qansahdera and Iidale) and Lower Shebelle regions (El –Jalle and Marka) have reported new cholera cases this week, and surveillance officers are planning to conduct field investigations and collect specimens.
