Child Protection
About Child Protection in Somalia
Established in 2010, the Child Protection Area Of Responsibility (CP AoR) in Somalia is a forum through which agencies with child protection programmes in Somalia coordinate their interventions, seek consensus on strategic issues and create partnerships and linkages for better prioritization of the available resources. The overall objective of the CP AoR is to lead the coordination of the child protection efforts in humanitarian settings in order to ensure children in emergencies are protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence. Lead by UNICEF Somalia, co-lead by Save the Children International (SCI) and deputy co-lead by Somali Women Development Centre (SWDC) at the National level, the National Child Protection AoR seeks to involve relevant agencies and existing coordination mechanisms in Somalia. The CP AoR is under the umbrella of Somalia Protection Cluster. Membership of the CP AoR is open to UN agencies, international organizations, national and international NGOs, government and civil society organizations actively involved in child protection programming in Somalia.
