Niger: Humanitarian Dashboard (as of 30 January 2017)

Niger continues to face critical humanitarian needs caused by the consequences of Boko Haram-related violence in the Diffa region and the high level of vulnerability of people affected by recurrent food insecurity and malnutrition crises as well as seasonal floods and epidemics. At a crossroad between Western African countries and Libya, Algeria and Europe, Niger has also become a transit hub for hundreds of thousands of migrants in search of better economic opportunities. Every year thousands of them find themselves stranded in Niger and in dire need of humanitarian assistance. In 2017 the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) is seeking 271 million, including 139 million for the Diffa region alone. The HRP targets 1.5 million people out of at total population in need of 1.9 people, or 10 percent of the population. In Diffa, 48 percent of the population, including displaced people and the local population, are in need of humanitarian assistance. In 2016, projects listed in the HRP were funded at 54 percent that is to say $139 million were mobilized out of a requirement of $260 million.
