Nutrition Response In Emergency Situation In Malawi Issue #13 July 2017

From January to June 2017, over 80% of targeted children in 14 of 24 food insecure districts were screened, of which a total of 82,194 (9,728 Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM); 72,466 Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) were referred for further investigations.

All 611 Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) centres, 104 Nutrition Rehabilitation Units (NRU) and 563 Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) centres in Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) have reported:

*  2,878 children aged 6 to 59 months suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) were  provided with lifesaving treatment in the Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP)  centres  and  Nutrition Rehabilitation Units (NRU).

* 5,607 children aged 6 to 59 months with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) were provided with  treatment in the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP).

* 2,560 Moderate Acute Malnourished (MAM) Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) were provide with supplementary food at the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) centres.

* 19% decrease in the Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) Admissions in June 2017 and 21% decrement in MAM admissions in June 2017 compared with June 2016.
