Malawi Nutrition Updates bulletin #14 August 2017

In the month of July 2017 reporting was at 100 percent. All the 611 Outpatient  Therapeutic Program (OTP) centres, 104 Nutrition Rehabilitation Units (NRU) and 563  Supplementary  Feeding Program (SFP) centres in Community-based      Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) reported as follows:

· 2,677 children aged 6 to 59 months suffering from Severe Acute                Malnutrition (SAM) were  provided with lifesaving treatment in the OTP     centres  and  NRUs.

· 6,120 children aged 6 to 59 months with Moderate Acute  Malnutrition (MAM) were provided with  treatment in the SFP centres.

· 3,106 MAM Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) were provide with      supplementary food at the SFP centres.

· Overall a 6%  decrease in SAM admissions  from 34,363 in  2016 to 32, 270 in same period 2017 was recorded.

· Overall there was a 5%  decrease in  MAM admissions  from 72,129 in 2016 to 68,337 in the same period in 2017.

· The SAM death rate for January-July 2017 is 2.2% which is within the SPHERE thresholds of < 10% (751 deaths out of 33,746 discharges).
