Malawi Nutrition Update Issue No.20 March 2018

In February 2018 reporting was at 100 percent. All the 618 Outpatient  Therapeutic Program (OTP) centres, 104 Nutrition Rehabilitation Units (NRU) and 611 Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) centres in Community-based  Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) reported as follows:

*   4,357 children aged 6 to 59   months with  Severe  Acute  Malnutrition (SAM) were  provided with lifesaving treatment in OTP centres  and NRUs.

* 11,753 children aged 6 to 59 months with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) were treated in the SFP centres.

* 4,911 Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) with MAM received supplementary food at the SFP centres.

* There was a 31% decrease in SAM admissions in February 2018 compared to February 2017.

* There was 3% decrease in MAM admissions in February 2018 compared to February 2017.

* The SAM death rate in the month of February 2018 was 2.5 % which is lower than January 2018 and remains within SPHERE standards.

* SMART survey final report and endorsed results will be released by April 6th 2018.
