20170112 Gov-UN-NGO-Donor-Red Cross coordination meeting - Summary Meeting Note

1. SECURITY UPDATE - UNDSS

The overall security situation in the past weeks remains stable. A new approach to assess the security situation will be applied by the United Nations Department of Safety and Security.

2. HUMANITARIAN UPDATE - OCHA

BNPB reported 2,342 disaster events in 2016, which caused 522 deaths and 3.05 million people temporarily displaced. Compared with the 2015 figures, the number of disaster events in 2016 was significantly higher, yet causing fewer casualties and affected people. At least 69,287 damaged and destroyed houses, and 2,311 units of public facilities resulted from the 2016 disasters. Java remains the island with most frequent disasters, which were triggered predominantly by hydro-meteorological incidents. In January 2017, Aceh province has been considerably affected by floods, which forced temporary displacement of tens of thousands of people in at least six districts. Several districts in Java have also been affected by smaller scale flooding. As the soil is already soaked, flood and landslide occurrences until March are likely to be higher than normal.
