Haiti: Hurricane Matthew, as of 1st Nov 2016 [EN]

Category 4 Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti on 4 October. It devastated parts of the country and affected about 2.1 million people. The hurricane plunged Haiti into the worst humanitarian crisis since the 2010 earthquake. The Government estimates that 1.4 million people need immediate assistance, including more than 140,000 people living in 204 temporary shelters. In the most affected areas the number of suspected cholera cases per day is more than 20 times than the average before the hurricane. Moreover, it is estimated that 774 schools have been damaged or destroyed.
