Terms of Reference of the Provincial WASH Coordination Group

1. Background  

The Afghanistan WASH cluster is rolling out provincial Interagency Contingency Planning to improve and strengthen emergency response preparedness. So far five regional workshops have been conducted where a total of 23 province participated and drafted their contingency plans. While developing the contingency plan, provinces have also established WASH in Emergency (WinE) coordination mechanism at the local level and have identified the WASH lead and co-lead in their respective provinces. The overall purpose of the provincial coordination mechanism is to work as focal point for facilitating the communication and information sharing among partners active in the province and liaison with national cluster.

The provincial WASH Coordination Group is also expected to strengthen the humanitarian preparedness and response to the emergency through planning, coordination and support of effective and timely interventions to ensure acceptable quality of response is maintained.
