Humanitarian Coordinator Mentoring Programme
The Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) Mentoring Programme was launched in March 2011, pairing first-time HCs who are relatively new to humanitarian coordination/development functions with a mentor, in most cases a former or current HC or RC.
Mentors help HCs in a number of ways:
- To navigate through their leadership and coordination role;
- To analyze complex situations and emerging challenges;
- To identify approaches to tackle challenges and seize opportunities.
The HC Mentoring Programme responds to the 2010 IASC Learning Needs Assessment that called for personalized professional development opportunities for HCs to help them advance the humanitarian agenda. HCs value the programme’s tailored, real-time support which equips them to lay foundations for strategy setting in complex humanitarian situations.
